Andrea Arias x Foekje Fleur for MareaVerde Panamá

Durante la pandemia de 2020, Andrea estaba cada vez más frustrada al ver toda la basura plástica acumulada en la orilla de mar. Podía ver la basura crecer todos los días, la limpieza de playas y los servicios de reciclaje se detuvieron como resultado de COVID. Esto la llevó a recolectar toneladas de materiales reciclables y almacenarlos en su estudio pensando qué hacer con ellos, mientras los servicios de reciclaje comenzaban de nuevo. Pasaron los meses y un día decidió limpiar, lijar y pintar los envases de plástico y venderlos, entregando el 100% de lo recaudado a Marea Verde Panamá, una organización que lucha por limpiar océanos y ríos, educar a las comunidades sobre los desechos plásticos y construir barreras en ciertos ríos de la capital para evitar que la basura llegue a la orilla.

Luego le escribió a Foekje Fleur, una diseñadora de productos de Róterdam que creó el Bottle Vase Project. A Foekje le encantó que Andrea se inspirara en su trabajo y hubiera creado su propia versión del Bottle Vase Project en Panamá para apoyar una causa muy importante. Juntas decidieron hacer una colaboración entregando todo lo recaudado a Marea Verde Panamá.

Andrea, una vez más, recolectó varios contenedores de plástico en Panamá, luego Foekje seleccionó algunos a través de fotos, y finalmente se los enviaron por correo hasta Róterdam. Terminaron seleccionando la botella de Rosita Vel para su proyecto colaborativo. Y así nació la edición limitada #104 rosita. Foekje también invitó a Andrea a diseñar la caja en la que se empacó la botella de porcelana. La botella fue lanzada finalmente en Febrero 2022 en Europa.

During the 2020 pandemic, Andrea was growing frustrated seeing all the plastic trash accumulate at the shore. She was able to see it grow every single day, beach cleanings and recycling services were halted as a result of COVID. This led to her collecting tons of recyclables and storing them in her studio while she figured out what to do about them while recycling services started again. Months went by and one day she decided to clean, sand and paint the plastic containers and sell them, giving 100% of the proceeds to Marea Verde Panamá, an organization which strives to clean the oceans and rivers, educate communities about plastic waste and builds barriers at certain rivers in the capital to stop the trash from getting to the shore.

She then wrote to Foekje Fleur, a product designer from Rotterdam who created the Bottle Vase Project. Foekje loved that Andrea was inspired by her work and had created her own version of the Bottle Vase Project in Panamá to support a very important cause. Together they decided to make a collaboration giving all the proceeds to Marea Verde Panamá.

Andrea once again, collected several plastic containers in Panamá, then Foekje selected a few through pictures, and afterwards they were mailed to her all the way to Rotterdam. They ended up selecting the Rosita Vel bottle for their collaborative project. And so, the limited edition #104 rosita was born. Foekje also invited Andrea to design the box in which the porcelain bottle was packaged. The bottle was finally released in February 2022 in Europe.
